Following a short presentation by the author on his new book, Miamification (Berlin, 2017), the panel will discuss how contemporary art visualizes the future. Concepts that are present in Avanessian’s work—such as criticism, ethopoesis, poetic othering, capitalism, and the future - will be explained to the audience.
The event will focus on the future-oriented present, whose status-quo the author criticizes against the backdrop of a so-called “pre-emptive” economic and financial policy. At Port25, Armen Avanessian will share his “time complex” theories, and will speak about an inverted understanding of time in post-capitalist society. This refers to so-called “post-contemporary art,” which is designed with a speculative vision of the future in mind.
